Tula
Mocha Porter
Brewed on 8/23/2014
ABV: 4.2%

What a better way to get into fall and winter than with a glass of a good porter? At least that is the motto around here. Tula is a nickname for the other half of 5FWB's duo. You have to get permission to use it, she insists. She also loves porters, and so do I.

First, the finished product. Ready for drinking!

Fully conditioned in two weeks. It is having us a little worried. We hope it does not get as active as Yeast We Can.

Here it is fermenting. Look at that rich Krausen! Great indicator of delicious beer to come.

A lot of fun ingredients went into Tula. We added Ghanian cacao nibs during secondary fermentation, and coffee during the bottling process.
We had to make a chocolate tincture out of the cacao nibs, so, we soaked the nibs in generic vodka to sanitize it and suck out all the cacao deliciousness. The tincture was added in the secondary.

For the coffee, we channeled the coffee - cuppers in us to find just the right coffee varietal for Tula.

Horse Harrar won because it exhibited taste notes that we wanted to have in Tula.
